Layout View ports
-
Hello again guys and gals. Let me just jump right in. Is there a way to rotate a viewport in Layout? Say the default angle of my drawing is 4 degrees off of true north. Is there a way to rotate the view 4 degrees?
-
Sure there is. Select the viewport and grab the rotation handle (the little blue dot just off the center pivot point) and drag the viewport in the desired direction. Type 4 and hit Enter.

How could I rotate a view port the angle of a 2:12 roof pitch? I tried typing 2:12 as I rotated, but I couldn't get it to work.
It comes out as 2 deg. And it seems to follow the convention of CCW is positive, no matter which way I start my rotation.

And let's hope you haven't used any texts in SU...

Well, you could convert your 2:12 to an angle (9.46°) and rotate the viewport to that. Use a negative value if it rotates the wrong way.

JQL .. I don't understand your response.
Dave R .. Thank you, that's what I ended up doing.
I thought I was onto something by drawing a line at a slope of 2:12, moving my rotation point to the end of the line and then trying to rotate. It wouldn't snap to the line, or it's endpoint. -
I'm sorry for my criptic answer. I don't usually give those.
The fact is that if you use texts in sketchup and then rotate the viewport, texts will also rotate and you'll probably be annoyed with the result. So for good results what you should do is not rotate the viewport in layout but, do it in Sketchup. There's a lot of ways of doing it. One of the most effective is by using a plugin from Thomthom called camera tools.
For your last question, that rotation handle on Layout doesn't infere to any angle...
I hope I've helped this time, best regards,
JQL
