      Hello,

I am new to SU, but am impressed so far with the ease of use and value of the tool for scientific instrument design. To efficiently close the loop, we will want to send drawings of components of selected designs to our machinist for prototype and later production fabrication. He runs CNC machines that accept "step" and "aegis" formats [sp?].
Is there a way with SU pro + whatever, to export files of components to CNC compatible formats so that there will be no need for time consuming, expensive, and error prone transcription by the machinist? If so what software is required?

      Thanks,

I have coffee daily with another company President who would also like this capability.

If you have Pro then 3d DXF export is possible.
Many CNC machines will take this file format.

I have written custom-tools to make paths for CNC cutting.
My 'Slicer5' script also has a Pro-only option to export to such a DXF - this is organized so inside-paths and outside-paths are on different layers etc. I've also done tools that set things up to add engraved reference codes, make recesses and drilled-holes [below a a set diameter] onto layers etc so the CNC operator can determine what's what...

It depends what is is you need...

          Tig,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I'll pursue your suggestion - could well do the job. I'm getting the impression that as with most things the devil is in the details, and that simple geometries exported to dxf by SU Pro will run easily - or with minimal handholding; however, there will be exceptions that will arise. Fair summary?
