Spaceship (Collaborative Project)
-
I like the idea of a joint project venture, and I like spaceships. But I had a different concept. A bit crazy. Well, it goes like this, star travel takes several years (I don't believe in warp speed) centuries maybe. Zero grav, apart some living areas with artificial grav, no air friction, so you won't need sreamlined shapes. And practically unlimited resources and computing capabilities. You redesign your spaceship with SU, and zillions of maintenance and repair robots and microbots go out and rebuild it. You got constrictions, the main living area, the nuclear plant far away from it, and a very long linear engine for propulsion. But then you can design and build whatever you want, a gothic cathedral with spires irradiating in 12 directions 360 degrees round, towers and flying bridges and buttresses, gargoyles etc. The whole thing can be extremely lightweight, no significant weight or stress on the structure (acceleration and deceleration will be only fractions of a G), but will appear solid and textured. I'll try something on those lines someday ...

Interesting ideas you got there Hepf.
I like streamlined shapes, they look good in any medium

Thats me screaming while Marian skims the planets atmosphere , loving the ship Marian, i think we finally have the overall shape
-
YEY
Now what?
-
i dont know, texture? addon some more detail maybe?
-
I was thinking something like this, without all the guns and crap.
-
Nice ship solo, i like this sort myself, as for detail, no guns, damit man, im a grunt, i need guns, lol, joke
not sure about detail but maybe some escape pods pretuding from the hulls side -
Solo, that type of texture looks pretty cool, but i don't know if I can pull it off with my limited experience.
Damien, what kind of detail? I agree with solo on not having big obvious guns. A ship this size might have a few high power lasers for research and other things though. Other than that...we could add some sort of greeble or nurnies here and there.
If we're texturing I think first we should single out most of the near flat areas. I'm gonna use the path select tool from the SketchUV plugin to do some of that and then UVmap them. I haven't done much work with it before. -
How about we adopt the tech design for my other ship and put it in the same universe, then we can use this picture as a guide.
-
ooooooh yes, i think that looks good, go for it
-
Great....now the hard part.
-
lol, ths texturing, i could never pull it off

mmyeah...it is a daunting prospect.

So where are wear now Marian, I don't have a download of the up to date version, you after doing a runner on me
-
Well, the one with the side engines on is only a SDS version, I haven't made the modifications yet on the low poly. I just wanted to see how it looked.
I'll do more after the weekend, now it's party time. -
Bumping this thread. Just curious to see what has been developed.
-
I'm afraid that nothing new has been developed.
