      Hi guys,

I mostly use SketchUp to make models and sets for my animations, Yet whenever I import a model into my software from sketchUp I get creases and odd triangles all over the place. Now I believe this to be smoothing related, as if I import the model into 3ds max and apply smoothing most disappear. However I wondering if there is a method of sorting out the smoothing groups in SketchUp itself?

      Thanks in anticipation Tim

        Hi Tim,

What format are you exporting from SketchUp?

          You can use Artisan http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=34868

          Take a look

            Hi Guys,
Thanks for the replies. At the minute I'm just importing the SketchUp file into 3ds Max, however what I want to be able to do is export fairly simple models from SketchUp in .ase format. Even importing into Max and apply a smooth modifier I'm still getting the odd crease and wrinkle.

I have artisan sat in my tool box...I have to admit I never thought about using it...I will give it a try.

You can try to set welding verices in the 3ds export options dialog but that means you cannot export UV co-ordinates then.
