Materials Over a Network
-
Ok
So I've set up a LAN and Sucessfully got two comptuers to respond to one another and render, however from I can see of the test render is that the slave machine is not picking up the materials that are stored on the master, how do I get this to work? If anyone can help it will be much appreciated since Ive got a tight deadline coming up soon!
Thanks in advance

Hello? Do you use a Distribute Render?

Hi John
Sorry I couldnt find where this post had gone, hence my slow reply.
Essentially I have set up a very basic LAN between my two home computers, the DR spawner works fine except that it is unable to read the materials from the master computer on the slave computer, from my research and understanding materials have to be in one centralized location but when I read the text in the DR spawner it reads the location as having no such file, I have tried enabling sharing the whole of my C drive, which I understand is quite risky, so I'm not sure what is going wrong.

You can use Send to each Node instead.
Btw, when asking questions please mention what software and exactly what version you are using. (I was just guessing that you where talking about V-Ray for SketchUp.)

Hi Thom
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly,
I am using Sketchup 7 with Vray (im not sure how to work out which vray version I have)
is it is as easy as that?
ie click asset collection then send to each node?
Ill test it and get back to you
Thanks

Ok I've tested it,
it doesnt appear to have sent any materials over the network on this occasion, all the textures are matt colour opposed to the photo textures that I previously replied, the file Im working on has been transferred from another machine so none of the materials have a saved location on my machine other than in the temp folder I'm guessing so perhaps this is the problem?

It should be extracting the textures from the SketchUp materials (at least for the diffuse texture).

is it is as easy as that?No - Unfortunatly the location of the version number differ from version to version.
The latest display the version number under Window > Preferences > Extensions > V-Ray for SketchUp.
The previous version had the version in an About tab in the V-Ray option window.
The very first didn't have any version indicator - other than you could see that the V-Ray core version was 1.4x - Note that the V-Ray core version is not the same as the version of V-Ray for SketchUp.
I think that the version number has usually been indicated in the installer filename as well. -
Its 1.49.01 Apparently,
I've opened a new folder and rendered that across the network,
only one simple material with a displacement map and it seems to have worked fine, I think it must be because the other model didnt have any materials saved onto my system directly, since what I need to work on will have all new materials anyway this should hopefully work, thanks for your time guys
