I uninstalled SU completely, but before doing so I copied the Plugins, Materials, Components and Tools folders onto my hard drive.
Upon re-installing SU Pro 8 I received a long list of things that could not be loaded (mostly associated with langhandler.rb). Two examples are shown in the attachements.

I checked and Langhandler.rb exists in the Tools folder.

Also, there were no extensions to "activate" in System Preferences.

      HELP!

I'm not sure it's such a good idea to make a backup of the Tools folder. The guys and gals at SU Central decided some years ago to put all their essential stuff in there to keep it separate from the 3rd party stuff in Plugins....so it ought to be created just fine in the course of a normal installation.
There ought to be a long list of built-in stuff in Extensions like Dynamic Components, Sandbox, Shadow Fix etc. Not sure why you are seeing nothing...it looks like a faulty installation.
I'd even be fairly careful about copying scripts to Plugins too. Some scripts (like V-Ray for instance) are not simply copied there but are placed there as part of an installation procedure which can't be short-cut.
I know that Thomthom has admitted that when he reinstalls SU he only copies scripts back to Plugins as and when needed, precisely to avoid such issues.

Do you have a sketchup.rb file inside the Plugins folder?
That file should only ever be in the Tools folder [at least since v5?], and the latest version is put there automatically by the SUp installer.
Having files that should be in the Tools folder duplicated inside Plugins is a recipe for problems...
You might have other ill-advised 'duplicates' too...
Check these two folders contents and keep just the versions in Tools...
