Splitting surfaces into grids/segments.

Hi again guys. Just a quick question to see if there is some sort of plugin available.
Are there any plugins that are able to split surfaces into grids/segments/shapes?For example, I've got a rectangular plane that comrpises of 18 square metres. Is there any automated way I can tell this surface to be split up into a 4x4 grid without having to use an array in both directions?
