How to use vray-materials.de files

Hi folks. I apologise in advance if this question has already been answered. I did a quick search but couldn't seem to find a lead.
I have only just discovered http://www.vray-materials.de but am having trouble using most of their files as the download only contains a jpeg of the sampled material and a file which ends in .mat On my computer this extension is recognised as a microsoft access file, which i have not the slightest idea of its purpose. I have yet to come accross a .vismat
Could someone kindly share with me what I need to do in order to utilise the free materials available on this site.

You can use the jpegs as your material maps, but you will not be able to the material files. These files are for V-Ray for 3D Studio and the SketchUp plugin has its own format .vismat
This site has some free vismats http://luzindirecta.org/ and there a ton on the Chaos site (for registered users).
