Maxwell Render For Google SketchUp Competition
-
Ya, can't wait to get my IPad I'd actually won a really nice digital camera from them awhile back for a material competition. The only downside was that the charger plugs were European rather than US Hopefully I don't have that issue again, but either way I'm sure I can get some US style plugs if necessary.
They took down the prizes announcement pretty quick and I couldn't find out what they were. As I recall there were some more licenses and then a bunch of lomo cameras.
Gui, I loved your rendering! I've never seen mechanical systems look quite so artful! I'm really glad the NL team recognized the beauty there.

Edit: just emailed the NL employee I've been in contact with and he said they'll send my IPad over via a US retailer so no worries on the charger plugs

Good thing they are sending the iPad from an US retailer...!
I remember something about licenses and cameras as well...
I don't think my rendering was really at the same level as some of the other images, but I think it caught their attention because it is different...
(I did that image as part of my architectural thesis project. You can see some more images of it here: http://issuu.com/guitalarico/docs/urban_data_center) -
What kind of camera did you get Brodie?
-
I'm delighted for you Brodie. Really chuffed
Great image and well deserved

I'm not sure if this is the exact one but it's real close
It's got the little image viewer on the front for self portraits which my wife and I take a lot and it's got a great touchscreen on the backside with great haptics. It's a point and shoot but it takes some great photos and is really slick. It also doesn't seem to be very common, at least in the states, so I get a lot of comments on it. It also came about 2 weeks after my previous point and shoot died on me so the timing was great. If you're in the market they seem to be pretty inexpensive now and I highly recommend it.

I think it was really well done both in composition, color, and lighting. It fits really well into that thesis book as well which looks really nice also.
IMO, the difference isn't in quality but purpose. I didn't think about it until today, but the whole purpose of the comp is essentially so NL can have some more cool images to show off the new SU/Maxwell plugin. I think that probably played a major role in the selection process. You'll notice that mine, a bright white interior, is very similar to the images they've been showing on their website for awhile now to show off the new plugin.

I agree -- your work all together in the thesis book is stellar.
Best,
Jason. -
That's why I was afraid I would not win. A clean interior with some interesting MXM materials and high poly objects would have probably been the best bet, because it could better market the product. But I don't think the whole competition was just made to get some good pics, but rather that was a very good marketing stunt for Maxwell. Consider the huge amount of people that helped the participants by voting trough twitter and facebook and visited the Maxwell site to view the gallery. NL really got people interested in joining the competition and got the attention of most of the active Sketchup community this way.
Props to NL for the good job

Congratulations Brodie !

Thanks guys

Congratulations, Brodie.
I really ought to use Maxwell more often.

Brodie, congrats from Holland as well. You are a justified winner. Interior scenes with white ceilings and a generally convincing lighting are not all that easy to do.
I have a cliรซnt who wants a floor, fireplace and kitchen just like on your image.....
Is it your design ?

Hey Brodie!!
Mate I completely missed this competition.
Big congratulations to you mate as the winner - mind you it comes as no surprise - THE MAXWELL MASTER!!!!!
Well done mate!!!
-
Thanks Tom. And you should
Francois, it's not my design. It's not apparent from this particular image but it's actually a houseboat named Watervilla de Omval. It may not be too far from you actually as it's in Amsterdam. Here's a link with a lot of good photos, floor plans, and an address http://architecturelab.net/2010/11/watervilla-de-omval-amsterdam-by-31architects/
Richard, my goodness, you're still around? I thought you'd fallen into a hole long ago I seem to see you so rarely these days! I hope you're just too swamped with work these days. As grandma always says, you really should come around more often Anyways, thanks for the congrats, it means a lot coming from you.
