Add material to a component
-
Is there a way to add material to a component?
For instance - I have a component made up of a table and three chairs. I can select Edit Component and delete the chairs but I can't see how to add 3 different chairs to the existing component. This is for a banquet hall and I have 60 such components so I'd like to not have to create a new component and reposition all 60 items but the client wants the chair changed. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

You can simply paste the chairs into the component while open for editing, or move them into the component in the Outliner window.

Thanks for that. It's obvious now that I see it.
I was trying to select the object to be added after opening the component for editing but that, of course, deselects the component. Selecting the object first, then clicking Copy, then opening the component for editing and pasting does it.

In many cases I will move the components I want to place in the larger component into their final physical location while they are outside the larger component. Then I use Cut instead of Copy, open the larger component for editing and use Edit>Paste in Place to place the components inside. This works well for getting sub-components out of a larger component as well.

That makes sense. I'll try that next. Thanks

It does, but at the risc of loosing clipboard content.
Try drag and drop in the 'Outliner' tree structure to be on the safe side! As already suggested above by Ben.
It's fast and you see what is happening on screen real time. -
I have not yet begun to explore Outliner. Maybe this will be an opportunity for me to see it work.
