I am having problems with dimensions contained in Sketchup when importing a scene into LayOut. as you can see below, the proportion of the dimension in relation to the railings in Sketchup has changed considerably in LayOut.

does anyone know what causes it and how to fix it?

      dimensions in LayOut
      dimensions in Sketchup

What size do have selected for the dimension text? How big is the viewport in LO?

Why not use LO's dimensioning instead? The text will look better, too.

          dave,

in SU the text is size 12. changing the viewport size did not alter the relative size of the dimension text.

I do not like the way dimensions look in LO in perspective views. see the image below: there seems to be no way to align them the same way as in SU.

I see what you're saying. I'm hoping that LO4 will have the ability to deal with dimensions in perspective. In the meantime, I've got a work around.

I draw the dimensions with the Line tool in LO following some guidelines added temporarily in SU. After the dimensions are placed, I delete the guides and update the reference in LO.

let me see if I understand this: the reference in SU is an edge, not a guide line? what do you mean by "draw the dimensions with the line tool"? two lines with an arrow at the end on both sides of the text? would it not be too cumbersome to do all like this?

Sorry. I should have made a shot from SU. Here it is.

I put the guidelines in so I have something to follow to maintain the perspective once I'm in LO. I draw a double headed arrow and the extension lines by tracing the guidelines. This requires the viewport be rendered in Raster mode. The text goes in as a filled text box so the gap in the arrow is created by the overlapping text box. Then I go to SU, delete the guides, save the file and back to LO to update and re-render.

It isn't ideal but I think the dimensions look better when they are done in LO and there's more control over the way they look.

                  dave,

now I got you. yes, it is a good workaround but to be applied no more than a couple of times.

Most of the projects I do in LayOut are dimensioned drawings of furniture for others to build from. I would use dimensions on perspective views more if I didn't need to use this work around. As you say, for a few it's not so bad. I wind up using mostly tags for dimensions in perspective views instead.

Let's hope the next version of LO would be able to create these dimensions automatically.
