A stupid question... Groups / Components
-
Hey Guys, I have a query about groups and components nested inside components:
If have say multiple elements [not necessarily the same] I want to make a component for repetition does it matter whether they're groups or components?

It depends what you might do with them.
Let's use an example.
You have a series of door components and each has a door-handle.
If the handle is one component-instance in every kind of door-component then if you decide to change the ironmongery then updating the contents of the handle-component will be reflected in every door-component.
However, had you used a group as the door-handle then updating its contents in one door-component will affect it in all instances of the same door but no others will be affected.
So if you have repeated things across 'families' of components that could conceivably be changed and you want the change to affect all of the family members then use components for a quick editing solution.
If you subsequently find that one door type needs a different handle from the rest you can simply edit that door-component select the door-handle within it and swap it with another type of handles OR use 'make unique' on it - and edit that. Now only instances of that door type will show the changed handle and all other door types will still use the original handle design... -
As I thought, TIG. thanks for the explain.
