Is this feasible?

Here we go with what may be another silly question...Is it feasible, or even theoretically possible for a plugin to be written which will automatically wrap some selected object like say, a flower stem, around a selected NON-cylindrical object, without the object being wrapped interpenetrating the object it is being wrapped around?

The SketchupIvy tool [in development] does something like this, so with a more ordered algorithm and preselected form to be covered, I don't see why not - at least in principle....
