Cant get model rotated and placed in google earth
-
I have a question about placing models in google earth.
I have version 8. I have used the geo location tool to import a section of terrain, moved and rotated it in, and saved my file. When I then try to preview in google earth, the model is out of place (roughly in the middle of the original rectangle of land) and not rotated in properly. I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong. I have done this before successfully, so I am really stumped.
Thanks

You say you imported a terrain from GE, then moved and rotated it. Do you mean that you unlocked the imported terrain and moved it on-axis, so that you could construct buildings in the normal way?
If so, that's what you are doing wrong. You don't rotate the terrain to fit in with SketchUp's axes, you change the axes to fit the imported terrain.
You need to r-click on an axis line and choose Place from the top of the context menu. Then align SU's axes with the main lines of the buildings on the terrain. -
Ah thanks. I was rotating the terrain and not the model.

WTF !
Doh! -
lol...pretty much.
Its too bad you cant export hi res images from GE with Sketchup model lines on and cast shadows...

Doh indeed. You wrote what you did but it was so illogical that my mind also skipped it and was wondering about some completely different solution.
