      Good day πŸ˜„

I used to use version 7 some time back and had a free .obj export plugin - this exported fine with materials in place. I uninstalled because there were too many issues rendering in Carrara.

I've now installed the free version 8, hoping for some improvement. Tried four different .obj exporters, none of which worked, so they must be out of date.

Tried the .dae export, but this does not retain groups or materials. It either crashed or did nothing in Blender, Vue, Daz Studio, Bryce and Carrara. I was able to open and convert to both .obj and .dxf, which worked fine, except no materials or groups.

Even tried sending to Babel3d.com for online conversion - it came back with groups in the hundreds, but with parts missing and no materials.

Would very much appreciate it if someone could give some advice on how to get a model, grouped and with materials, into a format usable for rendering in Carrara. πŸ˜„

My OBJexporter http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=33448&p=338737&hilit=objexporter#p338737 works with many 3rd party apps [including textures etc] and in v6/7/8+... it is in 'm' and triangulates, geometry is grouped 'by material', BUT the exporter that's built into SUp v8 Pro does have more options like alternative-units and no-triangulation.

BUT what is 'Carrara' looking for in its import that makes it so exceptional ?

Thank you so much for making the plugin available, Tig πŸ˜„

This has solved all the issues for me.

When I used V7, I was not using your exporter - Carrara has no special requirements - a common fault was reversed normals and unwelded verts. I am not getting this with your exporter.

          Thanks once again. πŸ˜„
