BTW, as a company/freelancer you get the VAT back anyway, but you're still supposed to pay it in the first place!

Here I can opt out of this whole VAT thing. I cannot reclaim VAT but I do not even have to charge (so basically can be 20% more competitive than others charging VAT). This is up to about โ‚ฌ 20,000 turnover a year only though.

But the price for SU is the same all over the world, isn't it still?

Well, yes, apart from these regional VAT issues, I guess so.

You should try the Windows 7 diet Tom. Your so busy getting things done on PCs that you forget to eat/snack/get fat. Whilst on Mac you afraid to touch them so you sit and admire while munching Jammy Dodgers.

those jammy dodgers are looking good

Well, as most of my clients can deduct the VAT I have to charge it doesn't usually matter ๐Ÿ˜‰
The limit here when you start having to charge (and deduct) VAT is around $10000 annually I believe. But once you're in it's hard to get out again ๐Ÿ˜‰ We have 25% VAT BTW ๐Ÿ˜ž

Thanks Jeff, and judging by the conversation happening here I might do an article on VAT for the next edition ๐Ÿ‘

For the last year and a half I have done paid work almost exclusively for museums and similar, gov. bodies who cannot reclaim VAT here. So I am still fine (although wish to make more than that โ‚ฌ 20,000 with this job)

Is it just me or are there a lot of images missing in this issue? For example, the cable article has 8 steps in the centre and nothing either side. Also other articles have blank areas amongst the Text that look to me as needing images. I am using an iPad but I don't see these issues in the precious releases.

Thank you for any help provided.

                    Hi Manfred,

It doesn't work on iPad as it's interactive PDF. But I've you go to issuu.com you can view it online on your iPad.

                      Hi everyone,

There is some pretty impressive work in all of the CatchUps and it's looking very good. ๐Ÿ˜„ I'm writing a design critique, and since I don't have time to twitter or Facebook, is this the appropriate place to put the critique when it is done?

There are some strange things happening when I try to navigate around in the newsletter. ๐ŸŽ‰ In 3 I don't get the PDF control at the page bottom, I get a little hand with an arrow in it. Is this the "new" interactivity that I thought I saw mentioned? My mouse is so sensitive (maybe I can change a setting) that if I touch the scroll wheel it jumps to the next or next several pages. If I click, and somehow it reads a double click I keep getting thrown into the "redirect" to an advertisers page. ๐Ÿ˜ข All in all, I'm not sure if it's the newsletter or the fact that I just installed Adobe Reader 10.1.0 on my OS X 10.5.8. Any comments?

Does this look like what you see on your iPad? If so, the space between text would be to line the text with the corresponding graphic example. On my screen, there are eight pairs of graphics. If it's not what you see the problem lies elsewhere.

Have you tried pgup or pgdn keys? I'm not sure if a Mac has them? If no, the arrows keys should navigate.

Hi Rich and thank you for the response. Yes there are pgup and dn keys on the Mac. Never used them much, but will now as they do provide a more stable navigation through the PDF newsletter. I'm still curious if the little hand is a function of the newsletter or this new version of Adoble Reader. โ“ Oh, and the arrow keys also work.

Well, I've had time to check out the "Flipping Page" version of Catchup and find its interactive functionality easier to understand, learn, and use. The functionality also makes the layout more understandable where the layout on the the PDF version was confusing without all of the visual references to location and the magazine like animation. I'll probably use the paging flipping version from now on as I don't have time to decipher the void of the PDF version.

                            Thanks again. ๐Ÿ˜„

No it's not, because unsweetened soya milk only contains 0.5g of carbs in 100ml. Whereas milk is about 6g per 100ml ๐Ÿ˜›

Cola drinks will rot your insides. ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

Fact: When I worked for an aircraft manufacturer way back when, there was a strict prohibition on bringing any cola drinks onto the factory floor. During our orientation training the instructor spilled some coke on a very thin sheet of aero-aluminum, then placed a paper cup in the pool and left it for 3 days. On day 3 he pried off the cup and with a knuckle knocked out a perfect circle of aluminum. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Now all fizzy drinks contain carbonic acid, which decomposes into carbon dioxide for the bubbles, but cola compounds the acidic reaction more than any other flavor. ๐Ÿ‘Ž

I now only drink Ginger Ale, mainly diet as I am diabetic.

Oh, and the reason cola drinks do not rot the cans they come in is because of the plastic coating on the can inside. I think you may have seen a leaking can of coke or other drinks. That's because of a pin hole in the plastic liner allowing the acid to eat away the can. I once had a whole 6 pack totally leak out because one can developed a leak and that leak rotted the other 5 from their unprotected outsides. I still have the stain on my pantry shelf.

It's a great party trick Joel, but considering that the body contains a far more dangerous acid- hydrochloric acid, and that does a very good job of not rotting the stomach...... this urban myth scare story is nothing but.... a scare story! ๐Ÿ˜›

I've heard this story so many times from so many sources in so many guises. I actually think it's more a case of mass hysteria in support of the hatred of anything non-natural (whatever 'natural' is supposed to mean?- It's like that much over abused word "organic").

One of the arguments is "coco-cola rots your teeth. Here's an example... soak a tooth for 3 days" blah blah blah.....

The only really frightening thing about coke (or any cheap foodstuff) is the amount of sugar (or worse, fructose (http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/nutrition/a/fructosedangers.htm) it contains.

How many people can you name who have died from a direct poisoning from drinking cola?
