Shape Bender
-
Hello,
I am trying to download the shape bender plugin. I am not having any luck. I need to place a font on a sphere and was hoping that the shape bender would be able to help me do that correctly. Any comments will help. Thanks you,
Lori

You really ought to post in the main tool's thread if you expect to get a response...
You have given little help to those who might be trying to hep you...
Why isn't it working?
Nothing available to run it?
Nothing happens if you do?
There are error messages when you do?
Are these in the form of error-messages or output in the Ruby Console...
etc
If you can at least try to run it are there error messages in the Ruby Console? [open it before trying the tool]
Give us screen shots of the errors...I suspect it's not been installed properly...
Reread the guidance in the download post and follow it.
Also ensure you have full access rights to the subfolders within the Sketchup folder where you might be be reasonably be expected to read/write/add/delete-files/subfolders... like ../Plugins etc al -
I can see it in my
drive and in the plugin folder but I cannot see it sketchup at all.

This is not much help.
We can't see what you see!
Can you take a 'screen-shot' of your folder[s] to show what you've managed to do so far ?? -
On the off chance that you HAVE installed everything OK have you activated the tool ?
[As explained in the installation notes] You need to do a one off activation, using menu Windows > Preferences > Extensions... thereafter it will be available in the Plugins menu under the clf-tools submenu, again as explained in the installation notes too... -

also restart SU after you activated the plugin. If it is not there for activation, you did not correctly install it.
It also needs progresbar.rb installed.

My problem had to do with the fact that I had not restarted my program. I still am stuggling and would like to know if you can use this pluggin for 3D fonts?
Thank you,

Yes, you can but please, carefully read the instructions and watch the video Chris made. You need to do everything precisely in that very special way (along the red axis, grouped geometry etc. - I cannot know from here what you are missing).

Whenever you install or reinstall a script you must restart Sketchup [unless you are Ruby-savvy enough to use
load "xxxxx.rb"
!]You can 'bend' any geometry as long as it's in a group or a component-instance.
As Gai says you must have a line and an arc and the grouped geoemtry, all correctly oriented - as clearly explained in the thread...As for bending 3d Text... there are already some posts about that - read through the thread.
Any 3d Text is only a lot of geometry - the 2d outline of each letter is extruded into a 3d object...
So all you need to do is to group all of this geometry first, and then proceed as with any other shape-bending...
