Sketchup For Digital Art
-
I recently downloaded Google Sketchup so I could develop Digital Art and Matte Paintings. I thought Sketchup would be a create tool for me to keep objects in perspective and make my work 'pop out' more.
I am absolutely terrible at Sketchup so I decided to join this forum to get some advice and such!I was wondering if anyone else around here uses Sketchup for Digital Concept Art or Matte Painting. If so, what plugin's do you suggest I use? What kind of work flow do you have?
I am finding everything a bit daunting

Hi,
Welcome to SCF. One of our members here has a nice gallery showcasing what he achieves through SU an PS...
There's also this guy who's got some nice tutorials using SU as part of his workflow....
You'll have to hunt around in that site a bit but his latest video on Beveling is quite good.
As for plugins, what are you looking to do?

Thank you for the swift reply. I will have a browse through some of his work and videos!
One thing I am keen on doing is making some spaceship/aircraft art. Any kind of plugin that will allow me to make complex shapes will be fantastic.
If not I'll have to do it the old fashioned way and divide my shapes up using the pen tool -
I suppose some of the obvious you should get familiar with are......
TIG's Extrusion Tools
Fredo's Curviloft
Tgi3D Amorph (Commercial)
Artisan (Commercial)
But I would recommend posting your problem models first because of this....

Then we can see what we can do to make things clearer. First understand SU then go the route of the plugin

I agree, I am leaping too far ahead. I think I will practice using vanilla Sketchup until I am proficient it. If any problems should arise I will post them on this forum
Thank you for your guidance! It's much appreciated.
