Layout wishlist

i bet their doing something about this layout wishes:)
i wud wait for that to come out, new layout, dat wud be very nice , -
More fully featured text editing tools allowing control over tab sizes.
Capability to make tables within layout.
Retain Excel cell border formatting on copy and paste to Layout. -
So when is the next release?????
-
-
Damn - worth a try, thought I might catch you sleeping!
-
My Wishes are:
Spell Check.
Find and replace text string. -
LO on a Mac catches spelling errors as you go. Pretty nice surprise coming from Vista.
Overall spellcheck would be nice, but then I'd have lots of additions to my dictionary for construction abbreviations.I'd love it if it had 'editing' mode, or something similar to scene states, but applied globally.
I want global control to put it into a fast vector based linework only mode so I can dimension and annotate, then switch it back to 'rendered' mode with line weights, sketchy edges, scenes, shadows, etc. -
This, from working a lot with layout lately:
Find and replace text. (same as on any word processor)
Make unique copy of a viewport (allow a copy of a viewport to link to an alternate version of the sketchup model)
More options for the style tool (match properties). In addition to styles, match layers.
An option to input measurements in different scales 1:1, 1:5, etc. Useful for drafting on top of ortho views.
Components!!!!Improvements in snapping (object snapping and grid snapping do not always cooperate, layout will not snap to section cuts at times.)
A fix for the bug where a view is slightly shifted horizontally, but it's snapping points remain on the original location
A fix for vector pdf's becoming raster after updating some references. I can live with pdf, instead of linkable xls or doc files, as long as it works correctly.
Improvements to dwg export (all the ones previously mentioned)
Great tool, love working with it!!

And make the tools work just like in SketchUp
I hate the way things work now. If I want to move something, I want to pick the object, then move it by hitting M.
Same for copy.Groups / Components for labels / geometry / etc.
When you copy something, it should land on a specific layer.
I want dimensions to automatically come onto a dimension layer.
I can move them later if I need, but I hate getting dims mixed into my notes and such.Ability to re-link a specific view port. Right click, and be able to link to a different model. This would save some time when setting up documents with multiple models, or multiple versions of the same project.
Better flow for re-sizing objects and for moving things.
I'm not a fan of the current methodology. -

I would love to see a Warehouse for Scrapbooks. Its so time consuming to create scrapbooks for everything you do.

And I'd like them to be easier to use... Clumsy, now, for me at least.
I usually just open up a 'dummy' page with most of the stuff I need and copy / paste. -

Same for copy. This - going back and forth where "T" is "tape" in SU and "text" in LO is almost more confusing than having "M" and such NOT work in LO.
As others have said, would really like better tables in LO.

format dimension style
be able to turn on or off sketchup layers
speed it up! -

format dimension style
You can do that (unless I misunderstand what you wish)

You need to create your scenes in SketchUp (with those layers on/off) and can load these scenes in LO (with the respective layers on/off).

how? at the minute, i have to draw a new dimension, select it, go to the dimension dialogue box, shape box & text box to change to what i want.

yeah, i'm just looking for something a little easier. like if i forget to turn off a layer in sketchup for a scene, so that i don't have to go back into the sketchup model, change the scene, save and reload again in LO. just a time saver. or maybe i should just engage brain
cheers for responding so fast.

Yes, but you do that once at the beginning. Then sample that style and apply it on the second dimensioning you add and from then on, it will "stick" throughout the session. (True it could be more intuitive).

True again - some additional feature could provide more flexibility.

you can also set up some templates. i have a few single page templates with dimensions, text, notes, etc. setup off to the side. i use these to get started.
yes, the sampling thing is a bit of a pain, and unintuitive, especially if you make up 'groups' of objects - like detail bubbles, leader lines, and text. the detail bubble may have a transparent fill, the text box the same, etc... but if you sample these things together as a group they can get wonky...

Cheers. I'm only using the trial version at the minute to see if i can make the jump to sketchup for planning/construction drawings etc. so i haven't spent the time setting up templates & scrapbooks. i guess efficiency (& resolutions to annoyances) will come with that.

The Scrapbook is a great place for storing your styles and objects which you can either sample or drag & drop. I didn't realise how valuable they can be to the workflow until I started using them.
