I see SU users creating floor plan aerial views. How is this done?

Draw from Top view is the simplest way. But there is also a 2D plugin by TIG.

you have a few choices to make the actual view.

set the plate-line and below as a group and hide the roof, then use the parallel view and the top view.

you can use the section view to cut a downward direction section and then use the parallel view and top view.
by using the section view method you'll have the option of cutting the sections through windows and doors and thus showing the detail of openings.
