Hey guys, Just wondering if you can help out with some advice on how to stitch some high quality aerial pics? I'm working on an Urban Renewal Project and have been provided some awesome satellite imagery [250Mb+ each image!!] and have to reduce them in size and stitch them together to use in plan. I'd just bring them into SU and to it there but I'd like to try and do it via a photo editor..
Hope someone has a simple process

You'll need a Batch Image Resizer app (which there's loads to choose from for free). But for stitching I'm not too sure as I've only done panoramas in PS. Probably works on aerials too?
Microsoft have a free stitching tool that's linked to Photosynth but the name escapes me.
250mb per image, they must be amazing to look at!

Yeah incredible, Rich. Until now I didn't know that number 45 Queens Road had a pool; nor did i know that the bird that lives there had her boobs done.....

That would be MS Ice:
http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/groups/ivm/ice/However I have never used it yet and do not know if it is really good for orthographic images (it was obviously made for panoramic ones).

Hugin may do the job - http://hugin.sourceforge.net/
...but it is also designed for panoramas.

If you have Photoshop, it has an automated stitch function that works very well. File > Automate > Photomerge. I've used it on high res aerials from Google Earth Pro and it works very well. Depending on how many you have, 250MB per might be too much for even Photoshop. However, you could make a droplet (File > Automate > Create Droplet) to resize them all beforehand. If you gave me the image start and finish image size/resolution you want, I could create the droplet for you.

I actually re-sized them and reduced resolution enough so that i still have imagery at close-up. I bought them into SU as 11-12Mb images, exploded and grouped [so i can amend transparency] and realized that each image matched perfectly with the next once scaled!! How cool is that!SU file is about 70Mb now so it'll be interesting to see how Layout handles it....
