Combine two drawings
-
Hi Everyone
I have drawn an exterior plan of my garden as two separate drawings and saved them in different files. I would like to combine them into one drawing. Can I do this and if so how? It would be a very significant effort to redraw the additional bits in either of the two drawings.
Many thanks for any help.

Yes, you can do this. There are several ways actually. Perhaps the easiest would be to open one, select all (Ctrl+A), copy (Ctrl+C, Edit>Copy, etc.), open the other drawing file, paste (Ctrl+V, Edit>Paste, etc.)
Actually it would make sense to make a component or group of all of the model you are copying to make it easier to handle in the other file and prevent it from intersecting with the other model at least until you are ready for it to do so.

One other thing that comes to mind is if you have the first model placed as desired, relative to the global origin, you can use Edit>Paste in Place when pasting it into the second drawing and it will end up in the same relative position.

Thank you Dave for the reply. I have both drawing in one place now.

Excellent. And thank you. You gave me another topic to cover in my SketchUp class Wednesday evening.

The only comment I can add, is to open both SU sessions BEFORE you do the Clipboard Copy. Sometimes, opening another app can corrupt the clipboard area. Rare, but has happened to me more than once.
