This is my best effort

This is about the best I could do with this and all I had to go by was the picture in the model. I was wondering could anyone here give any advice on the process of making this nicer?
Thanks Kurt

I bought a set of those hinges so I could measure and draw them accurately for a project I did. I can look and see if I still have them. We ended up not using them on that particular project but I still have the set of hinges. I think you've made the leaves a bit thin for the other dimensions. Otherwise it looks nice.
For my use, the file size is a bit large if the hinge is going to be used as part of a project. I would cut the file size down quite dramatically if I were drawing it.

Yeah I've been trying to work on the file size of my drawings but like you said they are still to big. I think its because I round the corners but not sure, any suggestions on making my drawings smaller is welcome. I also plan on ordering some of these hinges but not at the moment. I have to many other projects I have to get finished with first but if you could send the dimensions it would be great! I love to build an hour or two then draw and right now I'm building my first bed. The reason for the hinges is because I'm building a toy box for my great nephew and his mother wants these hinges for some reason. They seem a little expensive for a toy box but she likes them.

I'll get some dimensions for you and probably send them later tonight or tomorrow. I think they are nice hinges because they are very stiff so the lid won't fall down on little fingers which makes mothers rest easier.
As to reducing file size, here are a couple of things you can do. First, use fewer segments for the round overs. On small things like this hinge don't need more than 3 or 4 segments in an arc for the round over. Another thing is to divide the hinge leaf components(make components here, not groups) in half. They are symmetrical so you can do that and dramatically reduce the file size. It also saves you drawing all of it. So here's a quick outline of the process.
Draw half of the hinge leaf
Delete the face on the seam line.
Make the half a component
Copy the component (Ctrl+Move)
Flip the copy to make it mirror the original
Move the copy to the original so the seam lines mate
Open one of the instances for editing and hide the seam line with Shift and the Eraser tool
Select both halves and make a component so they can be selected together. If you don't delete the seam face, it'll show when the two halves are put together. If you delete it, you won't be able to tell it's really two halves. As an example, I drew a turned pedestal or column for a small round table. I only drew 1/8 or it but, when it's all put together, you can't tell that it isn't a single component. You can see it at the bottom here.

Great article Dave (bookmarked) and will put your suggestions to practice! Thanks again!

Thank you. There might be other stuff on the blog you'll find useful as well.
So here's what I get measuring the hinge. You might not have been too far off on the thickness of the leaves. All in inches.
Large leaf:
Overall 3.19 x 2.15
Leaf thickness: 0.165
Sides are 0.638 wide
long side is 0.587 wide
Knuckle 0.55 dia.Small leaf:
Overall 1.88 x 1.5
Leaf thickness: 0.163 (from the knuckle)
Leaf thickness 0.125 (leg of L if that makes sense.)
Leg of L outside dimension 0.78I hope that helps.
Off to read a bedtime story to my son.

Thanks Dave for the dimensions I redrew it using some of your suggestions and measurements. The file size is way down but I also didn't round any of the edges. I still think it looks ok for what its going to be used for. Thanks again for all your time and help!

This is off topic but I just have to say your name "humpmetwice" made me LOL! I'm new here and your name expresses my feelings every time I discover a new cool plugin. OK back on topic.........

Long story on how I got that name but it stuck and I went with it, plus you don't have to worry about it already being used by someone else!
