Hyperbolic Roof with rafters... is there an easy way
-
An example of roofs I can get the shape with soap skin ruby, I need to model the rafters,
I did this portion by hand, is there an easier way to make the rafters, then automatically rotate them as needed to fit to this
hyperbolic shape?What I seek to model. -
hi red.. see the video for one fairly simple method

Another great method, Jeff.
For free you could use Chris Fullmer's Perpendicular Face Tools to put a copy of the rafter section at the end of each line and use either Follow Me or Push/Pull to extrude them. Maybe not as fast but...

redglad it helped..
"You time and effort is most appreciated."
the thing with these videos is that they're actually very short to make
in the past, i've tried to do step by step skp's but they end up taking an hour or two just to type up and they're still not really clear.
i'd rather just point at something and talk about it -
Hey Jeff, great video, thanks for that!
What screen capture software are you using? I have been using Screenium for a while now and it seems like your motion is smoother than what I am doing. What I really liked about Screenium was that I could make a custom window at a specified resolution and then place that window anywhere on either of my monitors. Super handy as I make all my animations 720p and having my screen captures the same size helps a ton when I get to video editing in Final Cut.
Thanks again

Nice. Thanks for the vid!

chuck,
i use iShowU
http://www.shinywhitebox.com/ishowuhd/main.htmli demoed this and screenium at the same time (when screenium was still in beta) but ishowu won.
it does what you're talking about with the custom sized window that can be placed anywhere you'd like. (though i just use the presets.. this one is the youtube HD 720p preset). the pro version has some integration with Final cut but i'm not sure what exactly that means as i have neither the pro version or final cut

Yeah, I tried ishowu as well; I can't remember why I went with Screenium instead. Thanks for the info.
