      Hi all,

All, go easy with me I'm a gallery virgin! πŸ˜‰

Model below is for Google Earth but pretty pleased with it so thought I'd post up here. It's in my city and is now part of the University. Please note I do know this is very basic, native SU output and it can undoubtably be improved with a bit of slap and tickle. πŸ˜„ Despite all that what I've just said, would love to hear some feedback, no matter how bad, every day is a school day as far as I am concerned. πŸ˜„

This is way too good for Google Earth. They don't deserve you. πŸ˜„

How many photos did it take for you to put the whole thing together?

Did you work from photos only?

Thank-you very much for all the comments, nice to wake up to on a freezing Wednesday morning. πŸ˜„

...the grey colored flat roofs give it away though. Something more authentic would be better.

Hi modelhead, totally agree with you here, I got the texture from cgtextures and I know it isn't great. The is the satellite imagery isn't great either (in fact it's rubbish) so I wasn't really sure which way to go.

My wife (who works with at the university) got me a .dxf plan of the campus, which gave a good footprint, although not as good as I'd hoped as still needed straightening and eyeing in some parts. Was great to get an idea of mass though. All the photos were taken by myself, and it didn't take that many. I'm lucky I suppose as my city has Bing's Birds Eye View available which helps with roof details etc. I probably used 30ish photos for textures and 100 for modeling.

Often I just look around in the area and find a roof that looks appropriate and take a sample from it.

I like it. πŸ˜„ Nice idea, thanks.

I will make some changes tonight as I have to change the ornamental spheres for png's (they are making the model waaay too big).

                        Thanks again.
