But a model like this doesn't exactly scream 'QUALITY' to me!

Consider it's designed intention: populate the Google Earth layer with very low-poly boxes representing building seen from a distance.

        Oh come on...

I get it has to be very low poly for the purposes of populating google earth.
However its still a box with a photo of the roof on its gable!!!!

Which is the quality needed by Google Earth... It do and make what it needs to - nothing more. We're not talking about presentation illustrations here.

So what does it need to do? Is its purpose just to let people know there is a building there...it doesnt matter what the building looks like or what size it is or roughly what shape it is...but there is a building there.
What is the point of adding anyhting at all if its not correct.

Apologies if I have taken this topic off of the original point, so this is the last I will say on this. If I cared enough about it I would start a new thread specifically about Building Maker.

AA stands for Architects Anonymous an organization for embarrassed designers clever enough to get an architectural degree, but not clever enough to know the difference between SketchUp and ketchup. They generally form secret groups where each gets up an confesses his sins. Unfortunately a few go rogue and attack the mother of all modelers.

I dont think that is ignorance.

That model was terrible. It was done in 30 seconds, or it was a quick try from someone trying out the app for the very first time.

And based upon that model, Building Maker was dismissed and jokingly renamed "Box Maker".

The same stupid criticism is made of SU and half this site is wetting their pants with indignation. But the same people who cry about SU being dismissed because of ignorance will be just as ignorant towards BM or 3DW.

Dear John, It's called "Irony" 😉

And yes you are right- but it is so funny to see such a bad model (it's also rather sad too, that someone's even bothered to upload it!)

                    LOL
What I laugh seeing that model. 😆

Tom I don't think bocomofo was attacking "building maker", but the model. BM it's just a tool good or bad may depend on the guy using it.

For God's sake, low or high poly, that model it's badly made, period. Even by the 1988 16bits Sega Gensesis/Megadrive 3D standards.(did you saw how that textures were? I seriously doubt GE doesn't have higher standards...)

I too have been guilty of this when it comes to buying stuff I know little about. If it cost more it must be better. Sigh......when will I learn???? If I have a saving grace, it's that I am cheap:-) Unless it's my client's money. Just joking.
