    Script:
    ##hideEverythingElse.rb
place it in the ../Plugins/ folder...

    Usage:
This script adds a new function to the 'View' menu.
    'Editing: Hide Context'
    It 'toggles'.
If it is active it is shown 'ticked'.
If it is inactive it is shown 'unticked'.
    The default setting is 'inactive'.
The last setting is remembered with the saved model across sessions.
When it is 'active' if you edit a component-instance or a group then
everything else in its context is hidden from view: unlike the built-in
'View'>'Component Edit'>'Hide Rest of Model' and
    'View'>'Component Edit'>'Hide Similar Instances',
which will either show OR hide EVERYTHING both inside AND outside of the
    editing context.
'Editing: Hide Context' is limited to hiding only objects in the edited
    instance's context.
This may be more useful than 'Hide Rest of Model' if there is something
outside of the context that you still want to see [e.g. to snap to], but
you do want objects in the immediate context to be hidden temporarily as
    they obscure your view...
Remember to set 'View'>'Hidden Geometry' to 'off' for an unobstructed view.
Note that because it is a menu-item you can shortcut-key to it.

Very Nice. An "isolation mode" plugin. πŸ‘

          thanks tig.
          I do not understand,
This plugin is like having clicked options:

          • Hide the rest of the model.
          • Hide similar components.
            no?

not hide groups/compontes that are within group/componte active

            Hi all,

Thanks TIG for this plugin ! Seeing it something came to my mind. Could it be possible that the isolated selection goes to the origin during the time of editing ? Then it comes back to his place when editing's over ? could that be a way to avoid the clipping issue in big models ? Just and idea..

            Regards.

              To clarify...
It works like 'View' >'Component Edit' >'Hide Rest of Model' and >'Hide Similar Instances' [in fact it uses those] BUT what it ALSO does is hide everything else during an editing session including other instances and geometry - something that the built-in tools don't.
So for example make several groups and group some of them, nest some of them.
Edit one and other objects might be in your way.
Toggle the 'View' >'Component Edit' to 'hide' the rest etc and now some objects will be temporarily hidden and your view will improve... but there might still be some nested objects obscuring your view.
Activate 'View' >'Editing: Hide Everything Else' and even those objects will be temporarily hidden. πŸ€“

I see the point - I will work on an alternative that is like 'View >'Component Edit' >'Hide Rest of Model' but ONLY hides what is in the current entities set... To hide everything you'd still use 'View >'Component Edit'... πŸ˜’

                  Here's v1.1 http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=280618#p280618
which I think addresses the issues raised.
Please read the notes on the linked page.
The toggle now hides everything in the editing context only... πŸ€“

                              Hello TIG,

Thought this plugin would serve for 2D exports but it's actually not. I might be wrong but I don't believe there is a plugin that hides the rest of the model from the 2D export. For instance, sometimes, I'd like to just make a 2D export of a furniture inside a whole project in order to show how it looks on its own. Even though the "Hide rest of the model" function is enabled, it's ignored in the export file (png or jpeg). No matter how much of the model was visible in the viewport, the whole model will be seen in any cases. The only workaround for me right now is just to select all, unselect the only element that I want to make visible and delete rest of the model, do the export, and undo the objects removal. But it can get tricky when there are groups of groups and you need to manage inside them which you want to keep or not...
Do you think you could create a feature that would somehow allow this ?

                              Thank you πŸ˜„
