      1. How can I attach materials to my model properly using Vray for Sketchup Pro 8?

Use SketchUp's tools to apply materials. It's a good idea to name your materials properly so they make sense and can easily been found later. Then, when you need to add reflection, refraction, bump maps etc, locate the material in VfSU's material editor and add the appropriate layers and maps there.

      1. How can i make it look photorealistic? what settings should I use?

Make good materials. Use good textures - cgtextures.com is a very good resource. Study materials - how much they shine and reflect in real life. If your camera is close up to some materials consider adding some bump maps - or even displacement maps.
In addition to good quality material you need to take good care of the lights in your model.

Remember that often one can achieve great things in post. You don't need to do everything in one render pass.

(By the way - please state exactly what version of VfSU you are using when asking question. Often the answer depends on what version you got.)

All the answers are in the V-Ray help. There are also good tutorials on their site. Seems You forgot to start with the manual!? 😳
The clear instructions for importing and exporting .vsmat materials with screenshots are on page 17 in the V-Ray for SketchUP manual. Here are the links for download:
