If we can import land Earth in SU earth why not the sky?

Hi Robert.
My name is Javier and I'm and architect and an astronomy enthusiast. I have just read you post called "Astronomy software?" and very interested on what has been the outcome of your project. I’m also interested because, as you can see on these threads:

My idea was trying to do a plug-in or extension, but after some time only achieved a plug in called "Face Sun" (thanks to thomthom) and thanks to Gabriel at the forum of http://cerebralmeltdown.com another plug in to place a face according to Azimuth and Altitude coordinates.
Besides asking you about your project (that must be a very interesting one), I want to know if you have had luck finding an astronomy software for Sketchup, or if you have find more info about the image of your post. And about this image, when I saw it I just knew I had to share with you a similar image because it also joins astronomy and architecture. It is a project I did for a contest in Nazca, Peru. You can see in the image how the building is aligned so the sun can show trough openings in special dates. Thanks in advanced for any answer.

Unfortunately I never found the software source for the images I posted and never found any other software that could do what I wanted it to.
The project is a continuation of the James Turrell art project at Roden Crater in Arizona, USA.

Why wouldn't you extract the skymap as image and paste it as a transparent texture on a hemisphere created in SU ? Looks like the easiest way to me ...

The idea is to make it interactive. Ideally you could insert different dates and times and see what stars would be visible, like the sun/shadow tool in basic SketchUp.

As Pilou was mentionning, there should be a way of linking SU with Google Earth and use the latter's stars features ...

Just from the rendering I get a gut feel this maybe from Blender. Try posting your question in the Blender Information / Advise thread in the SCF Corner Bar. Did a quick Blender search but could not find this

Stellarium is a free application (Opensource) for astronomers, very, very professional and interesting, you can introduce the latitude and longitude for localization a place and the program will shows the real sky with constellations for this place, i haven't investigated on depth the application but i think that you can save the sky image and then use it like background for your sketchup model (put the same parameters for latitude and longitude in geolocation into Sketchup).

As for today, Google Earth only has "generic" stars (just random points). But it's a rquested feature, because Microsoft has it.
In SketchUp 7.1 and earlier, it was possible to import terrain from Moon, Mars etc. (these are just "Earth" with different textures).I'm also interested in this topic, who knows if there will be an importer plugin (or maybe stellarium can export sky domes?).

I think that in Stellarium you can save the sky dome like an image, then you can apply this image like texture to a sky dome model in SU.
