Difficulty marrying two parts
-
I am frequently need to marry two parts into one. I have not be able to master the ability to easily connect two parts. These are parts that are imported into a scene or mirrored from existing parts. Using the "move" tool keeps jumping upward or side to side. I must be able to marry the two parts precisely, sometimes bottom to bottom and sometimes bottom to bottom and side to side. Everytime I get close the part moving snaps to high or low, etc. Is there a way to marry two parts precisely one to the other? Thanks

take 15 minutes or so and read through the instructions.
http://sketchup.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=94859specifically, look at the inference section and using the shift key.
[you'll probably have another question or two after that but it'll be easier to answer after you take the refresher course ]

Thank You, Jeff...I was able with inference and arrow keys to move two parts together on the bottom and edge(?). Is there anyway to insure that the two parts only butt up, but, one doesn't encroach into the space of another? Thanks

marriage is always difficult, but worth the effort.

Bob, if you grab geometry precisely on a corner or edge (zoom in close if necessary), Sketchup's inferencing makes it easy to snap to other edges or vertices.
If you haven't already, I recommend watching all of Aidan's videos: http://www.sketchupfordummies.com
Here is the video about Moving:

Thank You, d12dozr...that is precisely what I wanted to see. I was unaware that this series of videos existed. Appreciate the heads-up.

Aha! Aidan-Worship!!
Google need to add an extra button in SketchUp that automatically buys Aidan Chopra a pint of beer, every time that button is pressed!

I agree...by far the best way to learn SU, IMO

Yes, I wish that the default figure as you load up a new copy of SU, was Aidan as opposed to Sang!
