I searched the forum and found a few posts discussing overlapping faces. I've been encountering this only recently (SU v7.1) in only one of my models. Almost EVERY time I subdivide a face by drawing a line, it creates 2 or more overlapping faces. It's easy enough to see when it happens. It's relatively easy to fix. It's definitely annoying and it's definitely killing my efficiency.

I see that the Cleanup plugin has a delete duplicate faces, but I don't want to clean up a problem I shouldn't be having. Does anybody have any suggestions?

I will simply make an observation specific to the way I work.

Sometimes I need to draw lines to create alternate faces to the ones that may have been created in some operation. When using the endpoint/ midpoint inferences sometimes you gotta orbit a little to get the pencil to "see" the destination, especially when zoomed in. If you don't pay attention to this, you will likely get a "phantom" inference signal slightly displaced from the intended point, and if you click this, it will set up a face not logically continuous with the adjacent surfaces.

This is really esoteric, I know, and most likely it is not what you are experiencing--but, just in case...??

I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.

I find this to happen when I build models based on imported DWG data. I suspect there are some microscopic precision errors that at times cause this very annoying issue to happen.
