      I'm currently trying to make an assembly manual-style diagram in which all of the grouped parts of an assembled object are separated from each other by a certain distance.

      I'm sure I remember seeing a Ruby script that performs this function at the click of a button but I can't remember what it's called.

      All help gratefully received.

            Pilou's plugin works very nicely although I find I end up having to manually move components manually anyway because I need some parts moved farther than others depending upon the view. The plugin gives a good start, though.

            You might also find the Dashed Lines plugin to be useful for your exploded diagrams.
