What do you recommend to take to Boulder?
-
For those who do not want to take a laptop; this time (just like last time) there will be a "lab" where we can all play around with SU (maybe with SU 8 already? Who knows?)
Some photos of the SU lab in Mountain View:
I once had this big monitor one. Imagine ereading my emails "in public"!
Here you can also see one of those "free cafΓ©s". Poor Thomthom; so many, free cookies!
-
wow that looks pretty good, is this sort of setup just open all day with people coming and going or are their actual schedualed talks in these rooms also?
on another note I would like a google sketchup t-shirt will I be bale to pick one one up in boulder?
-
Last time we got BaseCamp T-shirts. I don't know about now...
And the labs are labs in order for people to use, chat, change experience and all that stuff (maybe even drink beer?). There were other rooms to do the presentations and organised sessions.
-
I want one like what the staff are wearing maybe i can buy one or persuade one of them to part with it lol, ha im getting the feeling that beer will play a larger role than I had first thought!
-
We got similar ones to the staff's just not those polo shirts (with collars) just simple T-shirts.

So laptops. I see they recommend bringing your laptop but I am wondering how useful it would be to have one there. I don't own one BTW.
It would be nice to hear from those of you who have been to past Basecamps.
At this time of year in Boulder, daytime temperatures can be in excess of 90F (though likely less), with humidity of 10% or so, and nighttimes can drop into the low 50's or high 40's. Bring a jacket. It got cold at the last Basecamp in Boulder, the night of the party, which was held outside.
I brought my laptop to both basecamps, and used them in both.

Does this kind of event ever happen in Europe? Travelling all the way to America seems a bit crazy, just to rub shoulders with At Last...whoops Google!
Btw, I've got excellent connections at Warwick University!
-
Thanks for that Lewis, I was not planning on bringing a jacked.
Turns out my company is going to let me bring their lappy. It is a bit big and the battery life is not so good but it won't cost me a new machine.

I remember the laptop you brought Lewis ..... a very light but capable EeePC! BTW guys, there is a chance of being struck by lightening on the opening day of 3DBC, wee attached pic.
I think there will be some nice GSU T-Shirts and possibly other stuff available to attendees. I even heard rumors that GSU are going to break out and supply all with socks
Mike

haha GSU socks, rubber insulated I hope to protect us from all that nasty lighting???
-
-
Actually, Mike, I got rid of the EEE-pc after the batteries died a year ago and proved as expensive to replace as buying a new one. Now I have the inevitable Core7 16" monster Sony...at least it will handle decent-sized files.
It's actually the dry season, in a dryer than normal year in Boulder now (I have an aunt who has lived in Boulder 40 years now -- spoke with her about this last night). Probably won't be a long storm, if one comes, but it could be violent.
It's a neat part of the world, if you haven't been there. The mountains rise up out of the Great Plains with no almost transition, right there.
Bring a camera and drive up into Rocky Mountain National Park, if you have an extra day. It's really nice.

I was hoping for GSU underwear.

As long as there isn't a 'Explode' feature I'd wear them.
-
Might be a Follow Me option, though.
-
'push-pull' on the front wouldn't there?
-
This is degenerating rather rapidly. I think I would happy with a Google SketchUp pencil.
