Sketchup Mac opens Photoshop when placing a model
-
Under the menu SketchUp/Preferences/Applications is the application for editing image files set to Photoshop? If it is, this may be the problem.
-
Did this just start happening? was there a new install of Photoshop or any other change you can think of. I think the idea of changing the image editing app in SU is a good idea. If I remember correctly CS4 extended can open a number of 3d formats including KML/KMZ.
You could try uninstalling Photoshop for your presentation, or maybe create a new user account that doesn't have access to Photoshop?
-
This was a fresh install of Photoshop.
To temporarily alleviate the problem, I just deleted Photoshop for the moment. I will be putting it back on soon and will let you know if I get the same results. I have had this happen with other programs and file formats before, and doing the standard Mac fill association switch worked fine....

Was it the extended version of Photoshop?
-
Yup!

This has happened in our computer lab as well. The new version of photoshop has hijacked kmz files and they open there instead of in google earth when you select the "sent to google earth" command.(or hit the orange arrow globe) We have not figured out a solution to this other than to save the kmz to the desktop and drop it on GE. Even using the get info menu to select "use this application to open all applications of this type" does not work. There may be something in PS preferences but I have not dug around there yet.
It is quite a pain.David

Looks like instead of using a 3D Warehouse Photoshop Plugin, CS5 extended has built it into the app under a "3D Menu/Browse 3D Content"
http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Photoshop_CS3_Extended_Plug-In_for_Google_3D_WarehouseI can't find much documentation about that feature, but maybe dig around and see if there is a way to disable their browser from the preferences, or change how it works.
Just out of interest, do you get this behavior both when Photoshop is running, and when it is not running? In other words, does it actually launch Photoshop on its own when this behavior happens. If it does then maybe Adobe has some other sneaky apps running that are keeping an eye on things? Like whatever their media browser is called these days (used to be Adobe Bridge)
-
This happened when Photoshop was not running. Clicking on the KMZ Launched Photoshop.
How would I check to see if Adobe did anything sneaky? There isn't really a task manager on Mac that I am aware of, other then "Force Quit"

You could go to system preferences and your account, there should be startup items. Some items start up and then hide. I was wondering if Adobe has something under there. It is also possible that a preference under Photoshop could be meaningful. For example iPhoto has a preferences saying what app to launch when a camera is attached, and Apple's "Mail" app has the preference for what to use as the default mail app, or is that under Safari. Anyway, those are Apple made apps so I assume they have more access to the system than a third party app, in particular and Adobe app - the way Apple and Adobe are these days

I have been battling this issue for over a year. It is frustrating as F.

Guys, I a not a Mac user so I do not know how (simple?) it is on the Mac but on my Windows I could fix it in about 7 seconds by changing the file type association. There MUST be something like this on the Mac, too!
