What other objects are you trying to select? What type of entities?

Hmm... that should work, after the tool is active it should be possible to click other components (in the same context though)

I click to turn the tool on. I click on any component, and it just doesn't do anything. Only if I have a component pre-selected and then activate the tool it works. But then I am limited to playing around with only that component. I cannot select other components without exiting the tool, selecting, and then running it again...
Maybe it's cause I'm using sketchup 2015 and not 2016?

Shouldn't be any difference between SU2015 and SU2016. This extension was created years ago.
Can you video-capture what you do? Maybe share a model?

Huh,... looks like this isn't implemented after all. I must be confusing it with another extension.
