-
I have to get my sketchup files exported to vectorworks. What is the best way???? is there a exporter for sketchup?
I know that there is an importer for vectorworks but i know zero about vector works and a boss needs it in vectorworks as he's not seen the light of sketchup yet.....

Hi,cmeed
How about AutoCAD files? AFAIK Vectorworks can import DWG/DXF. -
yes indeed. I'm on a pro machine, the license says expired, for some reason. so no exporting of dwg files at the moment until i get the licence checked. I also have a boss looking over my shoulder...... i thought that there might be a chance of help through a sketchup vw exporter.

Hm. How about this one http://www.sycode.com/products/dxf_export_su/index.htm It is a 10 days/runs trial, but it should be fully functional.
Edit: Sorry, no Mac version -
Thanks although on a mac I've here im trying a different way now. cheers for the help. does a sketchup VW exporter exist then? no then

I don't know about versions, but at least Vectorworks Designer 2010 has SketchUp file support built-in (according to brochure)

But then again I remember seeing somewhere that VW supports 3D Warehouse, so importing .skp files shouldn´t be a problem - I think it was with earlier versions of SU and Vectorworks 12 or something, there was even some kind of VW plugin for SU. And then VW required Rosetta to import a .skp file on a Mac etc etc
Not really helping, eh? -
its not no but at least i'm getting somewhere. the VW version I'm using is 12.5 it says that it has already has the plugin/importer already installed but after following the instructions on where to find it and use it i'm no nearer, its not where it says it is. I know nothing about VW.
The dwg files i open (ive solved the license issue now) are way out of scale it come in in feet.....
tomorrow is another day.......

Import DXF/DWG has an option button on the main dialog - you can set the Units there to match your imported file [or Scale it after import ]...

Vectorworks can import a SU file. No need for an exporter.

I have sorted my problems now thanks for all the help. still didn't get VW to import even though the software is there to import it, somewhere.
In the end saving as a dwg 2000 solved the issue as the person opening it was using an old version and importing the wrong scale. -
I have tried nearly every option for importing a VW model into SketchUp, and recently found software that does a good job. 'Transmutr' is a standalone application (not a plugin for SU.) See below for a comparison of various VW export/SU import approaches. Many of them fail to include the line work, so I've shown the results in both SU 'Default Style' and 'Hidden Line' to illustrate. I feel like Transmutr is the way to go, at least at present.
