    Hi there
I want to export my SU file to Illustrator. But if I make a dxf file, and then open it in scale 1:100, it's not in precise scale.
I've discovered that I have an export option when I choose the dxf format. When I choose that, it's in inches, but my model is in mm.
    Maybe that's the problem?
I can't see how I change that unit, though, can anybody help me?
All tips for a succesful export/import SU -> illustrator will be much appreciated, actually!

    Thank you very much
    Best, Lene

When you export a model, it is exactly the size it was created (subject to the accuracy of floating point math). It is the program that reads the dxf, that sets the dimensional unit, it is then edited with.

Ok, so the inches-setting in 'option' is not important... - so do you know why the file is not an accurate 1:100 when I open it as such (through 'place' in Illustrator) ?? It seems crazy that I should have to manually double check and rescale it?

Why not using eps or pdf? SketchUP can export 2D geometry in these formats - make sure You are in parallel view when exporting. I checked and dimensions were exact.

I have answered this question for you elsewhere ?
A 2D DXF is always in inches.
            A 3D DXF in in the current Model Units - e.g. cm/mm.
You can apply a scaling factor based on 25.4mm = 1", or easier export as 3D DXF in the first place ?

The SU dwg/dxf exporter has what I would call a bug - it doesn't record the unit used in the exported file.

That means that most of the "receiving" applications interpret that the file uses inches. When importing to AutoCad, the application can be taught not to scale the import in any way, but I have found it easier to open it first separately and change the scale settings in the file before inserting it in my drawings.

For a DXF it would be possible to correct the file in a text editor, but it is still up to the receiving app if it reads the info correctly.
