Sun path timing seems wrong
-
Hi..i have been using sketchup for quite a while for (amongst a great many other things) basic checks on solar access to find ideal orientations for windows and shading devices locations on houses that I do. It's usually fairly rough, but gives a good idea of the sort of heat load / shading required and when.
Recently I have had to prove shading to neighbouring property at a particular time of day. So I typed my time into the shadow settings and the result looked very different from the one in my revit model. I checked the angles and it appears to be a few hours out. Its no big problem as I have the revit model.. but it has made me question the accuracy of the whole sun path thing in sketchup. Anyone else come across this problem?
(sketchup 7.1pro.. win xp.. google earth location.. north point checked against survey..)
thanks..

Have you accounted for Daylight Saving Time?

Double check the time zone setting. That will mess up your settings, even if you have the lat long entered correctly.

Ah, thanks guys. I was using geo-referencing so I didn't notice the time zone was wrong (I thought I had checked everything!) - that accounted for the few hours difference. Guess I will just abandon geo-referencing for the time being, but at least my faith in sketchup sun is restored..
