Urgent - Help with Profiled Component

I have drawn a 3/4" thick x 2-1/4" wide x 27-3/4" long piece of wood. On one of the 2-1/4" x 27-3/4" faces of the piece I have placed a 'cove' profile. The profile follows one 27-3/4" edge and two 2-1/4" edges. Why the heck can't I then take that profiled piece of wood and - MAKE COMPONENT!!!???? The MAKE COMPONENT feature is grayed out after selecting the profiled piece.
I could really use some quick help here.

Is it grayed-out in the Edit menu too ?
Also does the shortcut B work ?
