Can you make layers retrospectively?
-
hello,
The next thing I really need to learn about is layers. I have created a couple of models (garden designs) and added loads of plants etc. I understand from a previous question I posted about instability issues that I should have used layers and scenes to keep the files organised. Can I do this retrospectively to these projects or do you have to do it from the start? Layers is tomorrow's focus for me, but I'd like to know if I should start again or can I rescue these designs? Thanks, Sally

You can make layers at any time, but remember ALWAYS to draw objects on Layer 0. Then make groups or components and move those items to another layer. Layers only control visibility, the do not separate geometry. You can quickly control what layers you want to appear while working by making scenes and assigning what layers are visible. In your case with the existing models, simply group the vegetation and "move" it to a layer. No need to start over.

If while modeling you made groups/components of your objects it will be a quick painless process. As you'll only have to select, say all of your plants, and place them in a 'Plants' layer.
If you have not made groups/components it will be slower but still not impossible.

Thank you, all neatly layered and scened!! It's made a huge difference to how fast it runs.
