      Hi (again!)

Just wondering what the best way would be to create a 'scramble net'?

When importing our symbols via .3ds into SU the files are huuuuge, the one attached is almost 7MB! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I've figured that it's the nets which are causing 6.5MB in file size in this particlular example so I am just wondering if anyone can suggest the best way to create nets like in the example below? I'd guess using a circle on the end of an arc, and use follow me? Am i anywhere near the mark?

      Thanks again.

Make the grid on the xy plane and then use Fredo's taper and radial bend tools

...or you could just use a texture projected onto a curved surface if your camera isn't going to be too close to the net. This will keep the file size to a minimum.

Another method using follow me. Create your arc "path". Make a circle at the base of the path. Select (highlight) your path, select the follow me tool, and click on the circle. You can copy, paste, rotate, this original to make your components. Follow the same for the horizontals

I tried it just for fun. I am sure there a million ways to do this. Each of these took just a minute or 2.

the first one was done with Fredo Stretch Scale tool and Lattic-izer. Not so hot since square rope is hard to come by. Which reminds me that Lattice-zer would be great if you could opt for the number of faces of your extrusion. Max does that.

The second one is Extrude loft by edges things with Lines2tubes.rb afteward. Just a thought.

If I make it look easy...It is probably easy

Try ExtrudeEdgesByRailsByFace with a small modestly segmented circle as a face to extrude.
You need to draw the outer curves and also curves for the ''ends - the number of segments in these dictates the number of 'ribs' in the final 'lattice'... โ˜€

                    Hi folks.

Without any plugin, just to learn the basic capabilities of SU.

Unless you really need the geometry for whatever reason, I would also go along with a nice texture.
