There is a tool in 1001 bit tools which allows the creation of horizontal grooves on a chosen face.

I am wondering if this sort of thing could be expanded to also create vertical grooves.

I seem to model exterior cladding for buildings quite a lot these days which can be a pain manually creating, then copying, then push/pulling these grooves.
If something like this existing groove tool could be expanded to create verticals and even diagonals possibly!
It could be used for closeups of brickwork too, if ever required.

Thinking about this, it may be easier if it created the horizontal and vertical grooves, without push pulling so it could intersect and remove overlapping lines.

Not sure if others would find this useful, or can think of ways such a tool could be used.

      Example of a grooved face

maybe the 'greeble' or similiar plugin could do this?

You can do it with Lattice-izer - you can draw any pattern on a face, group it and then Latticize it to make the 'frame' then just PushPull it into a 'groove' say 10mm deep.
You could also enter a negative frame depth, but this makes no frame and sets the 'brick' faces forward by 10mm instead...Untitled.png

In 1001bit tools, when I need vertical grooves, I rotate the object 90°.

I have tried rotating the face 90 degrees in 1001 but it gives the following

                          Tig,
I've been looking for this kind of script for a long time. I never realize that it was already created for almost 2 years ago. It helped me a lot in working with grooves which makes easier. Though it wont work on curvy surfaces, but still a very nice and cool plug in.
                          Thank you Tig.

sorry to be off subject but this reminds me of something, why aren't all the rubies availiable here? is there a reason someone hasn't put them all together hosted here?

They can only be where the author decides to host them. OR else its mayhem when the author puts out an update - where would they know what sites to go to update it at if they don't know where its being hosted?

So originally the ruby library was the main place to host scripts. But pretty only a single guy (the amazing Didier Bur) runs it, and updates get published through him, and I think its too much work for one person. So when SketchUcation came along and began hosting scripts, well that was great. Each author can put thiers here and keep track of updates. But many older scripts do not have threads on this forum, so you won't find them here. Plus this site does not have scripts for sale. But smustard does. So the ideal would be the sketchup plugins database, where anyone can host info about how to find the official page for a script, plus info on price. And each author can update it on their own. Like the one we started, its just not complete yet though 😞

Lately you've been tan, suspicious for the winter.

Some of the older scripts like Lattice-izer predate the forum, but are available at Didier's crai Depot.
If a need comes up here I sometimes publish a script again here - like Lattice-izer - however, many of us have many loads of scripts that are either superseded or specialized and don't often 'emerge' from the gloom... 😄
