Beginner needs help!

I am graphic designer mostly web/print and I have been asked to create graphics for an online virtual conference center. They want graphic representations of things like meeting rooms and ballrooms to be displayed on the webpage. I have no 3D modeling experience and downloaded Sketchup to try and get something put together.
Is this something I can do in Sketchup? I made a room and added a table but I have no idea ho to add lighting or windows or anything. Is this going to be something i can learn within a few weeks time?

From what you said so far i believe so, have you checked out Aidan Chopra's Videos?

They'll help you understand the basics and you'll build on it from there

For lighting you can on shadows in the 'Window' menu, but this won't create lighting from such things as bulbs. For that you'll need a Render program like Twilight, Vray, Kerkythea,.... the list goes on and on.
Windows are easily created, watch Aidan's Videos on Components

As for learning in a few weeks, this i think is very achievable if you dedicate a little time each day.
But most importantly, post any difficulties you have in the relevant forum and i'm sure you'll get good advice.
Best of Luck
PS, check out the Gallery Forum to see what is possible with SketchUp, here's one of the latest submissions which is very impressive

First, try to add material at the ceilling and then a transparency material at the top, so the sunlight can reach the interior.
Second is to set the scene you want and make some walls to hidden groups or use section slice, to delete the walls for sunlight.
Otherwise use renderapps, suggested before. For windows try the youtube videos as suggested, but also my videos on youtube called Fenster1 and Fenster2 which exclaim how to make windows in double walls.
Although it is in German language you could find it usefull.
