Does anyone know how to create a material with a gradient in sketchup? Is it even possible or do I need to photoshop a texture with a gradient and then use that? Any advice would be helpful! Thanks!

Yes, you will need to make the gradient material in another program like Photoshop. Well, I suppose there could be a way to do it if you really had to do it in su by making a series of strips, paint them each a sequential color in your gradient, then use SU's combine textures feature to combine them all into a single texture, which would appear to be a gradient. But I think that might be more trouble than its worth, and I'm not sure how great one could control the smoothness of the gradient.

Lately you've been tan, suspicious for the winter.

I recall that RickW also did some work on using a projected material that was balck-to-white hight-field gradient... http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=18024&p=149747&hilit=height#p149747
