WMV to MOV?
-
Peter, I used the AVI output from SketchUp in Windows Movie Maker to make the WMV file. I did that because I needed to make the animation repeat a number of times.
Honolulu DT, I don't see any option on Movie Maker to create a WAV file
Jim, yes, lots of crap out there. Thanks for the link. It is downloading now and I'll give it a go.

Jim. That worked perfectly. I should have just asked you in the first place. THANK YOU!
Thank you to all for the suggestions. I appreciate the help.
Dave

I must say thanks for that link Jim
And sorry to Dave for sending you on a wild goose chase

Hey Rich, no need to apologize. You got me farther along than I was before I started this. I appreciate that for sure.

It is possible to make a SU Quicktime plugin, if anyones keen
With or without Quicktime Pro, my Macintosh will output Quicktime movies, without a plugin (and I believe Windows will also export an AVI file). However, the quality is nowhere as good as what you see on the screen. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get SU to export at the highest resolution?

HonoluluDT probably meant W**MV not WA**V (which is a sound file). Just one character mistyping.
QT indeed has a plugin to play WMV files. Now I am not sure that QT Pro would also convert them to MOV but I can imagine.
I don't believe however that there are no Mac users here who could confirm this (or even convert it for you if you only need it once)

Why not download the Adobe Premiere Pro demo? You have to register for an Adobe account, but you get to try the full product for 30 days.
-
John, thanks. That would possibly work but it's finished now thanks to Jim and WinFF.

Dave, alittle late but this might come in handy and free, http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/convertvid-holiday/

Thanks Mike. I'll give it a try.

Good point!
Can someone point me towards a WMV file? I'll give it a go. (I think these can be read by Mac, although I've never used them here).

If you are a windows pc, use WinMovieMaker to go from avi to wvm.
-
Does QT have a windows plugin to play .wmv files? I should go look.
And to get the best quality movies from SU, export them extra large as a series of .png files, then use QT pro to turn those images into a movie. Works great.
Chris
EDIT: changes .ong to be .png which is what I meant....
-
Chris, what is a .ong file?
Didn't someone make a plugin to export high res images of the frames in between when the camera is in motion between scenes?

Custom gives you current view size, that you can edit, Expert give loads of compression type including none, so this image is just where you find them, not a recommendation per-say.my comment re-SJ-QT plugin was for the PC crowd, as this is it on a Mac, but I'm not aware of it being available in SU on PC's, sorry I wasn't clearer.
However if google have it for Mac does SU Pro PC have it, or can the offer it as a plug?
Chris- Bit lost by your wording, did you find it? if so do you have all these options?

I guess he meant png (o is next to p)

You do not need a plugin for that - Su does that natively. Or am I missing something here?
-
Yes, I did indeed mean to say .png files. Thanks Gaieus.

What? A pong file??!
John, I did what you suggested, in fact I had already tried that, but it seems that (or at least it looks like), SU exports at a screen resolution default of 72 (or 96) dpi. I don't know about Pro- but I'm guessing it's the same?
I've been playing with Sketchers Studio, but it won't allow for QT exports in the demo version. So basically I'm at a crossroad. Either I get this (nice 'n' cheap), or splash serious cash on Cinema 4D

QT Pro is well worth getting for full screen playback of almost anything, even if you don't use it with SU.
Also just did this test, took 4 mins to export this file out of SU, it's un-rendered ( or more correctly it's only SU rendered)
I've been having a play with LightUp (which exports AVI's), but my trial has runout before I managed to try an animated sequence, but it's worth a look before spending big bucks.
Could you start a new thread with exactly what your trying to achieve, and maybe a sample file, as I'm sure there are SU/Mac users who have found a solution or combo.
I've been working on animations of engineering product designs (as a secondary goal, to 3D printable SU drawings), but have tried out quite a lot of things in the process that may suit your needs if not mine.
Outside of SU, I like bits of SharkFX, SolidThinking and the RhinoWanacheeBeta, but there not SU which overall I prefer.
