WMV to MOV?
-
FWIW, I've been looking at QuickTime Pro. I don't see anything that indicates it'll import WMV files so that won't help.
-
Dave,
did u try the free-ipod-converter?
it will convert your wmv to mov and keep the resolution of your wmv?

No iPod though.
I'm still using 8-track tapes for music.
you don't need an ipod
it just converts any video to ipod compatible format

I have tried it now. It works but leaves a bunch of artifact. Thanks for the suggestion. It might come in handy though.

my final suggestion is to go here
http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/
its got lots of info on convert to various formats and has a great forum with lots of friendly advice...
not like this place

Hi,
maybe this is solved.Quicktime uses plugins for lots of things that need to be installed and then turned on, if you open the player, then use open file it tells you if you need anything (but not exactly what),
I need a plug for .wmv on a mac, but I don't think you do on a PC, you can then use share [export] to get all the output options.
It is possible to make a SU Quicktime plugin, if anyones keen
(here's a link to some including autodesk) http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html
john
and try VLC player, french, (but) free and in english

Excuse my ignorance, but how did you get a WMV from SketchUp, I can only see the option for an AVI ??
-
Quite a lot of crap turning up on the Google search, heh?
Here's a nice open-source converter.
Developed by a man you can trust: http://www.biggmatt.com/
Source code hosted on: http://code.google.com/p/winff/
Just tried it out - it seems to work just fine.

Sorry, I thought there was feature in SketchUp I'd missed.
But why change from an AVI to WMV?for conversions you might consider this.

Peter, I used the AVI output from SketchUp in Windows Movie Maker to make the WMV file. I did that because I needed to make the animation repeat a number of times.
Honolulu DT, I don't see any option on Movie Maker to create a WAV file
Jim, yes, lots of crap out there. Thanks for the link. It is downloading now and I'll give it a go.
-
Jim. That worked perfectly. I should have just asked you in the first place. THANK YOU!
Thank you to all for the suggestions. I appreciate the help.
Dave

I must say thanks for that link Jim
And sorry to Dave for sending you on a wild goose chase
-
Hey Rich, no need to apologize. You got me farther along than I was before I started this. I appreciate that for sure.

With or without Quicktime Pro, my Macintosh will output Quicktime movies, without a plugin (and I believe Windows will also export an AVI file). However, the quality is nowhere as good as what you see on the screen. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get SU to export at the highest resolution?
-
HonoluluDT probably meant W**MV not WA**V (which is a sound file). Just one character mistyping.
QT indeed has a plugin to play WMV files. Now I am not sure that QT Pro would also convert them to MOV but I can imagine.
I don't believe however that there are no Mac users here who could confirm this (or even convert it for you if you only need it once)
-
Why not download the Adobe Premiere Pro demo? You have to register for an Adobe account, but you get to try the full product for 30 days.
-
John, thanks. That would possibly work but it's finished now thanks to Jim and WinFF.
-
Dave, alittle late but this might come in handy and free, http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/convertvid-holiday/

Thanks Mike. I'll give it a try.

Good point!
Can someone point me towards a WMV file? I'll give it a go. (I think these can be read by Mac, although I've never used them here).
