Different texture on floors/walls
-
If you have SU7 then right click on one of the two materials and choose "make unique texture". Then you can edit one texture without affect the other.
-
Make unique will make a unique texture of the entire "face" (I mean whatever is seen on a prticular face - like a wall).
In this case, i would rather do the following:
- paint your floor (or wall - whichever you like best) with this material
- in the material browser, go to "In model" and click on this material
- rename it (at the topmost, you can simply overwrite the material name)
- Now from the original source, apply the material on the other surface - it will retain the original name thus be "different" - and of course, you can edit (scale) it differently.

thanks for your replies, it all worked great. Another quick question (and I'm sure this is in the wrong forum) I'm getting a dimensioned set ready for tile bids in Layout2, I already have a plan view just fine in LO2. I cannot figure out how to section for a wall elevation in LayOut. I can get the section view I want perfectly in SU but even if I save and then start a new sheet and 'insert' - my original SU model comes in sans section. again I'm sure it's crazy simple, I'm just missing it.
-
oik, I think I may know the answer but won't guide you there unless you set your profile to say your correct SU version (9 would be a bit advanced - many of the members here are SU Beta testers and they would be surprised to learn that 9 is out - even for a closed Beta).
Just go ahead and I wiil, in the meanwhile, find the topic you might need.

Sorry, that must have been there by default. I didn't even realize those settings were available for tweaking. I have corrected my details.
I can't seem to find a 'search' function for the board. Seems kind of odd for Google the king of all Search. I have always searched the Help pages and YouTube videos before I post. -

Those fields are actually required fields on registration.

The serach is at the very top right corner of the forum index page.
BUT this is not a Google forum so the search engine has nothing to do with Google.
Okay, here is a little discussion on sections and LayOut:

not saying it is complete but hopefully will help.
Currently section cuts cannot be dimensioned (but the GSU Team is aware of the problem) thus the workaround methods. -
thanks, I had already seen that page. it's the placing of the 'section cut' that I can't figure out. Is that done in SU and I'm missing the 'export' of it? or is it done in LO and I'm missing the 'command' or 'tool'?
-
You place the section plane in SU. It will then create a section cut in your model. Activate the section toolbar from View > Toolbars.
You will need some kind of trick to be able to dimension it in LO (see that other topic). Best is to place a section cut face a la TIG (then toggle the visibility of the section plane off via the toolbar) and you can then infer to it in LO.

ok, last question. I placed the section cut in SU, that gave me a perfect elevation on my Page 2 for the wainscot detail. But when I flip back to Page 1 (my plan view) the section cut is there as well, effectively removing half my plan view. any way to have the two pages react separately. Also, I don't seem to be able to manipulate the 'Section Cut' in LO, is that the way is has to be?
-
In SU, make a scene (View menu > animation > add scene) with your plan view without the section cut and another one for the elevation view with the section cut.
Now in LO, in the tray > SU model > View tab, somewhere at the top right you can change which scene to display. You cannot access section planes and cuts from LO so all has to be set up in SU.
When we get to the end of this, I may chop this topic into two and move this second part into the LayOut forum.
