      Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone out there would be able give me some advice. I have to model a 3D "turtle shell" for an artificial reef for one of my clients. I am new to sketchup, being an architectural technician I don't stray too far from AutoCad and Revit! If anyone has any ideas on how I can create this they would be most appreciated. Approx. dimensions are 8M long x 6M wide x 3.5-4M high.

      Thanks in advance!

Or find a dxf etc somewhere and import it...
        Then edit/scale as desired.

Would something like this be good for a quick start? (8m x 6m x 3.75m)

I see you're pretty good, but I suggest if you're interested in making domes try making half a circle then scale it right.
And in this case all you have to do now is project a photo texture onto the dome to make it look like a shell.
IF you want a more detailed model then you better clear your schedule...

Here's a simple process, starting with a flattened dome and utilizing Chris Fulmer's Greeble script. Obviously, if you can start with a shape where the divisions are more like those on a turtle shell (like fewer), you'll get a more realistic result.
