      hello,
when you are in a component change render mode for "wireframe" then hit ctrl+A to select all (edges only because you are in wireframe mode), then goto edit > hide.
return to "shaded whit textures" render mode .
      hope it s helps

thanks Juan, to do that you can also use Thom's selection tools or Didier's selection filters

..but my aim is to be able to hide the edges inside all sorts of nested groups/components
the script mines down all the levels and hides all the edges it finds...fingers crossed

Fredo, I wonder if it's possible to have one that will show all edges too (opposite), reason for that is when I need to save an line image for overlay, I need to go into all the groups, components, nested stuff and unhide them.

Fredo, the script works perfectly and very fast.. Superthanks! ☀

Pete, isn't the script already doing this with unhide?

              Cadfather

The problem I have is with imported geometry, normally Maya and Max models that have lots of embedded groups, you need to go into every group to unhide the edges.

perhaps i don't understand you, but when i hit unhide it does so on all sub groups..

Here is a old, undocumented script I wrote a while back.
It will Hide, and Unhide, all edges, at all levels of the current selection, or to the whole model if the selection is empty.

There are 2 entries in the Plugins menu for these operations

[Edit 13 Dec 09, 11:45pm] I made it work on the selection too.

                  Fredo

to drop in Plugins Sketchup folder

                    CadFather,

I just make it work on the current selection. If it is empty, then the script considrs the whole active model.

The rb file is updated in my post above
