Is there a plugin that gets rid of unwanted, or hidden faces? My model is 16mb in size. I'd love to make it smaller.

The one thing I've found with SU, is that it don't half deliver a load of double normals- ie normals that have a face on the rear, the unwanted, unseen side. Can these be eliminated also?

        "unwanted" by what definition?
"hidden faces" - as in and internal face - located inside some geometric volume? (or do you mean Hidden as in when you Hide a face using Right-click->Hide or the Entity Info window and tick the Hidden checkbox?

? I'm confused. Faces have normals - the normal pointing upward from the front-side of the face. Don't understand what you mean by "normals that have faces". Can you elaborate?

Or even a screenshot of what is "unwanted faces"?

It is a good idea to leave out [or delete] any faces that are on the 'hidden' ends or sides of objects that will never be seen - however, how's SUp going to know which is which ? It's down to you to do some work and simple go round and tidy up, I'm afraid... 😞

Yes, I had a feeling that may be the answer!

I suppose what I meant is a way of deleting faces in one group, that lie directly against any face in another group. Perhaps I just need to pay more attention to this in future? πŸ˜„

Thom, I didn't mean to confuse you, but when using other software such as Studio Max or Cheetah, a texture can be applied to a face, but when that face is inverted, it disappears completely, whereas in SketchUp, the reverse face either carries the same image, or is grey (as opposed to white). One of my tutors refused to work with SketchUp, precisely because of this. He said that in his experiments, it increased the model size (in mb's). He may of course, been wrong?

Yes, most other modellers only renders the front face. You'd have to explicitly have to toggle 2sided in order to see the back.

You can achieve the same effect in VfSU by painting the backside of each face transparent. But it'd be faking it and it'd be tedious.

Moved the thread to the Developer's forum. We have reorganized so that the Plugin section is only a list of plugins you can download and use. πŸ€“
